Digestion has always been a big topic, whether is 'getting regular', what type of fermented foods to eat, probiotics and how can we best take care of our guts.
Chinese Medicine has been using congee for thousands of years to balance our digestive systems.
Congee can be prepared the night before, even with left overs you might already have. This porridge-like dish is perfect to give our digestive system a 'break' and at the same time, add medicinal herbs to our meals.
1 cup basmati rice (or any leftover grains you already have)
6 to 8 cups of water
2 tsp turmeric
2 tsp maca powder
hard boiled egg
Add all ingredients to a medium pot, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low (the lowest your stove can go) and let it simmer for at least 2 hours.
if time permits, consider cooking for 2 to 6 hours, since the longer the congee cooks, the more medicinal it becomes.
